Getting your export

Where do I find the export in Instagram?

Settings and activity → Accounts Centre → Your information and permissions → Download your information. Pick your Instagram profile, choose Some of your information and select Followers and following, choose Download to device, set the format to JSON and the date range to All time. Followell can walk you through this step by step: on the Import screen, tap Start Step-by-Step Guide.

Instagram hasn’t sent my export

It usually arrives within a few minutes, but Instagram sometimes takes several hours. The file arrives as a link in an email, or under Download your information in Instagram itself. If nothing has arrived after a day, request it again — Instagram occasionally drops a request.

Followell says it can’t read my file

The most common cause is choosing HTML instead of JSON when requesting the export. Followell needs the JSON version. The other cause is picking the wrong file: choose the .zip Instagram gave you, not a folder or a single file from inside it.

Nothing happens when I choose my Downloads folder

Choose the folder your export downloads into, not the file. Followell then watches that folder and offers to import new exports as they arrive. If you’d rather pick the file each time, use Choose Export File instead.

Using Followell

Why won’t it let me unfollow any more today?

Followell paces unfollows into small batches with a 30-minute break between them, and a daily limit, because unfollowing large numbers quickly is what gets Instagram accounts temporarily blocked. You can change the pace in Settings — Careful, Standard or Brisk — and Followell can notify you when the next batch is ready.

Instagram blocked me from unfollowing

Open Settings in Followell and tap Instagram Blocked Me. Followell pauses for 48 hours and switches to the Careful pace. Blocks like this lift on their own; don’t keep trying in the meantime.

An account in my list doesn’t exist when I tap it

That account has been deleted, deactivated, or has blocked you. Tap Not Found on the row and Followell moves it to Accounts That Don’t Exist and gives you your free unfollow back. These accounts still count towards your following number in Instagram until they’re gone for good.

Someone I unfollowed is still in the list

Followell can’t see Instagram, so it checks your marks against your next import. If the unfollow didn’t go through, the account reappears with a note saying so. Just do it again.

My numbers look out of date

They’re from your last import. Import a fresh export to bring everything up to date and to see who has unfollowed you since.

Subscriptions

What’s free and what needs Pro?

The full list of who doesn’t follow you back, the export guide, automatic import and safe pacing are free, along with your first 50 unfollows. Followell Pro adds unlimited unfollows, who unfollowed you, whitelist labels, the Follow-Back Score, spreadsheet export and iCloud backup. It’s £5.99 a month or £39.99 a year.

How do I cancel?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple, not by us. On your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Followell → Cancel. You keep Pro until the end of the period you’ve paid for. You can also reach this from the ••• menu in Followell, under Subscription.

I paid but Pro isn’t showing

Make sure you’re signed in to the same Apple Account you bought it with, then open the ••• menu → Get Followell Pro and tap Restore Purchases. If it still doesn’t appear, email us and we’ll sort it out.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We don’t take payments ourselves, so we can’t issue one directly — but do tell us what went wrong.

Your data

How do I delete everything?

Settings → Erase All Data removes your imports, whitelist and history from your iPhone, along with any iCloud copy. Deleting the app removes everything too. Since nothing is ever sent to us, there’s nothing for us to delete at our end.

Will my whitelist move to a new iPhone?

Turn on iCloud Backup in Settings and your whitelist, labels, history and settings follow you. Your follower lists aren’t backed up — import your export again on the new phone and everything reattaches.
